A WORLD OF ARTISTS
Artists Haven Gallery By Michael Joseph Pub...
Artists Haven Gallery located in Ft. Lauderdale, FL was established in March 2005 by Michael & Elaine Joseph seeking to promote his fine art photography as well as the work of fellow artists. This book is a celebration of all the 150 artists the gallery currently represents. They are form around the world including; Australia, Austria, Canada, Denmark, France, Italy, Korea, Sweden, and from all over United States of America. Each of their individual backgrounds, cultures, history, educations, ethnicity, and inspirations are as various and unique as their art.
Our contemporary gallery offers art by established, mid career, and emerging artists while boasting a diverse collection of paintings, mixed media, drawings, collage, digital creations, photography, pastels, and watercolors. The process by which a gallery selects artists to represent is very subjective, varies to a great extent from person to person, and place to place. Our gallery exists to present quality art in a superior environment. We strive to nurture the creditability and value of each artist we come into contact with.
We have taken into careful consideration much of the criteria, understanding, and necessities of operating a successful art business. By definition our gallery is a place offering favorable opportunities and conditions. The gallery has become a respected resource for private collectors, interior designers, and corporate art consultants.
Over the past five years the boundaries have since blurred between defining where the artist-gallery relationship ends and a personal friendship begins. With the opening of our doors we have welcomed the occasion to share with our community, build lasting associations, help benefit worthwhile causes and charities, and to support the arts.

OCEANS By Roxene Sloate
Roxene Sloate By Michael Joseph Pub...
The ocean, for me, is a symbol of the eternal rhythm of being. Its unending wave patterns suggest the infinite possibilities of the universe. Painting the ocean is an ever changing experience and challenge. I often go to the Southeast Florida beaches to paint studies. The light and the rapid shifting movement of the waves constantly alter the colors and the forms. I translate my pleine aire experience and emotional response to the sea in my studio paintings. Exploring the viscosity of oil paint and a variety of mark making best express my response to the power and energy of our environment, always arousing an excitement of interactive color.

BURNT ORANGE By Jim Lively
By JIM LIVELY By Michael Joseph Pub...
Based on thirteen original paintings, the concept behind Jim Lively’s book of photographs, paintings and images from video installations was to explore and probe the essence or the etymology of two words - burnt orange. Despite the obvious relation to his alma mater, the University of Texas, this book is for anyone who may find himself consciously giving chance toward an unchartered yet exhilarating new calling. An emotional chord resonated powerfully during Lively’s ongoing search and discovery of his own burnt orange while creating these works.
In Burnt Orange, Lively incorporates photographs that relate and interact with the paintings. Instead of his signature placement of female protagonists directly upon the canvas in surreal environments, Lively instead uses photographs to capture the female image interacting with the paintings.
Experimenting with different techniques, Lively took thousands of photographs capturing images of the actual paintings interacting with video and projected color effects. He then edited a video containing only those images that most succinctly captured the vibrancy of burnt orange.
Over the course of several weeks, eight different female models were recruited to pose in front of a white wall as the edited video projected directly upon them. With little or no direction, the models slowly began to naturally interact with the video. Movements ranged from motionless blank stares directly into the camera to provocative spontaneity while the video rolled from frame to frame.

ART BY AKE JOHANSSON
This book contains my art work. It is mainly celebrity portraits, but also some pictures of friends and relatives of mine. I have drawn the most of them with pencil and charcoal on paper. All the colour images are made on the computer except a couple that are made with watercolor on paper.
I was born in 1959 in Stockholm, Sweden, where I also live and work. Mostly self taught, I have taken classes in oil painting (10 lessons, each two hours long), and mostly works with pencil and paper. I will try oil painting on paper, on specific paper for that. I have only tried on canvas before.

Non-Conformist, The Grey Series Paintings By Jim Lively
Paintings By JIM L... By Michael Joseph Pub...
Whether portrayed in the abstract, realism, or somewhere in between, I am most influenced by the beautiful, unattractive and sometimes humorous components of contemporary urban culture. Many times, one painting will reflect all these components.
Images from the paintings categorized as my "Non-Conformist, The Grey Series" are contained in this book. This series of paintings continue to depict interesting juxtaposition of images always including the grey protagonist. However, the paintings are more sensual and provocative than my typical figurative paintings. All the paintings are intended to be a tribute to the spirit of non-conformity.
The title and theme of this book, "Non-Conformist, The Grey Series" is intended to be a double entendre similar to the subject matter of many of my paintings. First, I am now a grey non-conformist or would be if I had hair. I will have to rely on my goatee to reflect my grey to the world. Secondly, I admire the spirit and non-conforming attitude of the grey Weimaraner dogs that I have had the pleasure of sharing the same roof various times over the past 30 years.

Old programs, pins and photographs – the remnants of good times long gone by but recalled at a moment’s notice by these mementos of the past. In a fitting tribute to Miami’s Orange Bowl Stadium, one of the country’s oldest and most famous football venues, photojournalist Scott B. Smith has amassed an astounding collection of photographs that record the vitality and history of this storied stadium in his new book, The Orange Bowl: A Photographic Journey & Architectural Survey
“The Orange Bowl. To a kid growing up in Miami, getting a ticket to a game there was awesome. Sneak in? Never. (It was quite easy…)” Smith writes. “I recall like it was last week, walking up those oh-so-steep ramps and still see the light blue air against the night sky. The field of dark green grass. The enormity of the place. Blue air, you ask? Remember – everyone smoked in the ’50s. It was a night game. Hey, I was nine.”
The Orange Bowl Stadium was put to rest in the spring of 2008, but not before Smith captured the Miami landmark from every possible angle, taking time to find every architectural detail from the seats, the ground and even in aerial shots. In The Orange Bowl: A Photographic Journey & Architectural Survey, Smith records his own experience at The Orange Bowl, over the course of his early life and through his career.
As a child, Smith enjoyed football games with his parents and godparents, tailgating and being a “water boy” and ball boy for the University of Miami Hurricanes. In later years he returned as a sports photographer to shoot for CaneSport and Husker’s Illustrated, but in 2008 he revisited The Orange Bowl for the last time, before its demolition, as an architectural photographer who could appreciate the classic, functional design of a stadium of a bygone era. “The book is not about football so much, but a visual memory for the scores of fans who may not have realized the last game attended would be their final time in the stadium,” Smith writes.
In a stunning collection of images from a true fan, The Orange Bowl: A Photographic Journey & Architectural Survey offers a piece of history and a glimpse into fond memories of the stadium that readers of all ages can appreciate and remember for many years to come.
Scott B. Smith is a native of Miami and currently lives in Jupiter, Fla. He is a professional photographer with a wide variety of project work in architecture, design and fine art. Smith is a member of the American Society of Media Photographers, The American Institute of Architects, the Association of Independent Photographers and the Stock Artists Alliance.

Desert Nights Volume 1 2006 - 2007 Portfolio

The author, Jerry Day, invites you to accompany him on a journey down lonely desert byways and haunted trails to rediscover the forlorn and forgotten backwaters of the American Southwest; locations long abandoned, yet dreaming in the moonlit stillness of the dark desert night.
Along the way you will rediscover the scenic beauty and mystery only to be found at night in the desert southwest. Your journey will take you past the twisted silhouettes of wind sculpted rock formations and of eerily gnarled vegetation. Your path will also lead you to the abandoned dwellings and mines of the ghost town or to the achingly poignant rock art and cliff dwellings, remnants of an even more ancient people.
All of these subjects and more were photographed at night, often by the light of the Moon. Long exposures, at times lasting many minutes, were used to capture the moonlit landscape. With film for his canvas, a flashlight for his paintbrush, and colored gel filters serving as his oils, Jerry was able to 'paint with light', adding color to shadows and enhancing the mood and mystery of the composition.
Jerry Day is a Southern California-based photographer specializing in nighttime and astronomical photography. Jerry has been an avid amateur astronomer and astrophotographer for many years, but recently has explored other aspects of photographing under the night sky. Long fascinated by the scenic beauty and history of the desert southwest, his photography reflects this fascination by incorporating the wind sculpted rock formations, gnarled vegetation, and the relic and ruin to be found along lonely desert back roads. He was educated at Iowa State University where he earned Bachelor of Science degrees. His night photography has been displayed in group and solo exhibitions, including international venues.

"Much of my work is highly intuitive, creating a canvas or backdrop of landscape allowing for a superimposition of personal emotion. These landscapes, whether sea, land or space-based, coupled with an endless spectrum of emotion, provide an infinite pallet of possibilities. To manifest these possibilities in an honest, new and stunning fashion is my challenge as an artist."
