According to the recent findings, plants feel more than we can imagine. So far, we can only suppose how deep their feelings are. They may feel emotion, fear or joy. It is commonly stated that plants grow better and faster come into bloom when appropriate music is played in their presence. Some people talk to the plants they tend. Human beings have always searched for a positive contact with nature and the nature has influenced their moods. Communion with trees brings relief to contemporary, always busy people. To recover, some of them embrace trunks, thus taking their life-giving energy. It would be a shame not to mention the soothing influence of greenery. Green in its various shades. First delicate and then violent. A multitude of shapes and dimensions. It is not only green though. In this greenery, human beings find a whole rainbow, a full range of colours that delight their eyes. Flowers. Colourful and fragrant, attracting insects and birds. Shimmering wings of butterflies, dragonflies and hummingbirds. The whole meadows of flowers. Most of these flowers bear fruit. Fruit of various shapes, colours and dimensions. And even though not all of them are completely safe for humans, aren’t they great? This fact has often been the source of inspiration for artists.
My works included in the presented series are inspired by music. Great music by a great artist - Stevie Wonder and his album “Journey through the Secret Life of Plants.” This music must have been created in full by Wonder who plays every instrument adding subsequent sounds on a multi-track tape recorder. Electronic tones alternate with sounds of classical, traditional African and Indian instruments. This music is very energetic, it conveys different climates and draws on ethnic elements. I became fascinated by this album nearly thirty years ago and I decided then that I had to transfer this wonderful music into the language of painting. And it has finally happened. I have created a dozen or so monotypes entitled “Intimate Vibration of Plants,” some of which constitute my current exhibition. In the future, I may complete this series with a few oil paintings. Perhaps it will even be a whole garden.
