SARA J. CHAMBERS
High Rolls, NM
Since she was a small girl growing up in the Air Force, Sara J. Chambers has always loved color and line. As a kid, she hated “coloring pretty”—the soft, neat coloring was not nearly expressive enough. Chambers loves BOLD color. She especially loves the juxtaposition of pure color and direct, textural application possible in pastel painting, oil painting and watercolor. Chambers’ childhood was spent in numerous places, both in the U.S and from Japan to England. This broad cultural exposure gave her an interest in diverse subjects, from her first love of gardens and flowers, to animals, landscapes, portrait and figures.
Chambers owned and operated Mountain Majesty Workshops fine art school in Cloudcroft from1995 to 2005. She teaches classes at her SpiritBird Studio in High Rolls and for other art schools. She has exhibited work in over twenty national and international art shows, including the Salmugundi Club Nonmembers Show. Selected honors include the Platinum Pastel Award at the Pastel Society of Oregon National Show, the Pastel Journal award at the Sierra Pastel Society International “Pastels on High” Exhibition, having a paintings published in the Pastel Artist International Magazine, American Art Collector, and Western Art Collector. She is a signature membership of the Pastel Society of New Mexico and an elected member of the Degas Pastel Society. Chambers' work is found in U.S. and international private and corporate collections, in galleries in Fort Lauderdale, FL, Atlanta, GA, and Blue Ridge, GA
