MIKE SPITZ
Los Angeles, CA
I grew up in Cincinnati and lived in Chicago and New York City before moving to Los Angeles in 2000. In 2006, I published a book of my photographs entitled, “Etranger”. which contains 53 black/white and color photographs ranging from urban street scenes, rural landscapes, portraits, abandoned railroad tracks, subway and train stations, and old cars. In addition to photography, I wrote, directed, and photographed several short films, which have appeared in many film festivals worldwide and on international television.
I am drawn to the American landscape and urban life, capturing solitude in its many forms. I believe my photos express isolation, contemplation, decay, and the convergence of technology with nature. My background in film enhances my images, giving them a strong narrative, composition, emotion and cinematic visual style.
