ANDREA GOLDSMITH
Brooklyn, NY
Andrea Goldsmith’s paintings use the imagery of Venice and the Italian landscape to explore the transient nature of life and relationships. The layered work in oil is abstract yet retains the essence of the images which inspired them. Images of grids, gates, hearts and passages symbolize the passing of time, changes in direction, barriers to communication, lost love. The layers of the painting, expressive color and painterly brush strokes combine to evoke a sense of history and transformation.
Goldsmith currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. She returned to her native city full-time after living for many years in New Hampshire. It was in New Hampshire that she began painting after the birth of her son. She studied in Manchester and Nashua, NH, took workshops in Nantucket, studied with the well-known artist Wolf Kahn through Art New England in Vermont, and continued her studies at the Museum School in Boston. She exhibited her work extensively throughout New England during those years.
